The Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) has upheld the The Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) has upheld the suspension of KAMP Copyright and Related Rights Limited’s operating licence over governance concerns and the alleged misappropriation of Sh5.5 million meant for creatives.
In a statement, KECOBO said it has referred the alleged misappropriation to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for an independent investigation and appropriate action in accordance with the law.
The decision was reached during a special meeting of the KECOBO Board of Directors on August 24, where the Board reviewed KAMP’s responses to issues previously raised by the regulator.
According to KECOBO, KAMP had neither complied with nor satisfactorily addressed the concerns, prompting the Board to maintain the suspension of its operating licence.
The regulator has also ordered KAMP’s chairperson and directors whose continued tenure contravenes Section 46B of the Copyright Act to vacate office immediately.
KAMP has been directed to convene elections and appoint a properly constituted board of directors within 30 days. It must also provide KECOBO with documentary evidence of the new board, including minutes, election results and relevant corporate records, within 24 hours of the elections.
In a further move, KAMP’s current Chief Executive Officer and other officers allegedly involved in the matter have been directed to step aside pending the outcome of the investigations.
The developments follow a decision by the Copyright Tribunal on August 17 after KAMP challenged KECOBO’s suspension of its licence. The Tribunal affirmed KECOBO’s mandate to supervise and investigate the organisation but directed the regulator to conclude its regulatory action within seven days.
"Pursuant to this order, KECOBO's Board of Directors held a Special Board Meeting on August 24, 2026 and reviewed KAMP's responses on the issues that had been raised by the Board and noted that KAMP has not complied nor addressed the issues raised to the satisfaction of the Board," said KECOBO.
"Consequently, the Board decided to uphold the suspension of the license until the issues raised are addressed."
During KAMP’s suspension, the Performing and Audio-Visual Ri

The High Court has restrained the Music Copyright The High Court has restrained the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) from collecting royalties pending its appeal against the Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO)’s decision to withhold its licence.
In a ruling delivered by Justice Linus Kassan, the court also barred the society from carrying out the statutory functions of a Collective Management Organisation (CMO).
The ruling leaves the Performing and Audio Visual Rights Society of Kenya (PAVRISK) as the licensed CMO authorised to collect and distribute royalties, weeks after KECOBO’s suspension of the Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP) licence.
Earlier this week, The Copyright Tribunal in Nairobi upheld the Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO)'s legal authority to suspend the 90-day operating licence of the Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP), ruling that the regulator acted within its statutory mandate and not ultra vires.

At the height of 50 Cent's success in the early 2000's, he made a lucrative deal with Reebok to produce and sell sneakers with G Unit branding. The shoe sold millions globally but eventually when the momentum of G Unit died down due to factors like internal beef with the game starting the 'G Unot' campaign and fallout with other crew members, the company stopped producing the sneakers. Today G Unit has found new success outside rap music and is now successful in film and TV reviving some of these lost opportunities.

Over the past weekend, Kenyans witnessed the 1st d Over the past weekend, Kenyans witnessed the 1st daughter's themed wedding party, graced by the political class, all in matching burgundy colours. This came after the colour has become a trend amongst ladies in Kenya, especially with the burgundy nail trend taking over in recent times.
The dark maroon colour ' burgundy ' has its origins in Europe and is influential majorly because of its luxurious appeal which is not loud.
In recent times however, some sharp Kenyans online noticed the colour was used in description of very familiar "Ka Olunga Burgundy Cap" on eBay, which is the specific signature cap that rapper HITMAN KAHT wears in the cover and music video, of the still dominating, 2019 released track, 'Olunga'
This resulting cultural shift is believed to have been contributed to by the attention from the $25,000 retail price tag on the cap, which some people feel was deserving while others feel it was a rip off.
Would you purchase the cap for $ 25,000?

"Kenya futaa hakuna doh, inaeza fika date 11 na ha "Kenya futaa hakuna doh, inaeza fika date 11 na hakuna mtu ako na doo kwa team yote. Kuna team nimechezea hata coach anaitisha players dooh" This utterance by 29 year old retired Kenyan goalkeeper Edwin Mukolwe, in the recently released African Uncensored Documentary " The Fixers " already sets the tone for the sad reality of Kenyan football. The documentary cracks down on the dark silent killer which is match fixing and the players of this dirty game, which has potentially been ruining the potential of Kenyan Football. It highlights the dark truth and networks behind the swindling of football match results for financial gains, a chain consisting of players, coaches, referees, betting firms and agents. An eye opener for fans who may be thinking they are betting safely but in real sense they are being swindled out of their money unknowingly.
The Martin Siele produced documentary, seeks to awaken the audience, football administration and the judiciary to this vice and how it should be curbed as it is only in 2026 when a bill on the consequences of match fixing is being passed.
Take into perspective that, all these years, there has not been clear laws set on match fixing, meaning it was something noone could suspect from the outlook of football.

Rapper HITMAN KAHT earlier today took to the comme Rapper HITMAN KAHT earlier today took to the comments of resurfacing video of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, shooting DJ Evolve back in January 2020. In the comments he states " a patriot should do us the honours at this point" and on the next comment he states "#RIPTONYEDGAR #RIPRAILAODINGA" leaving many wondering what this cryptic message means.
Is he trying to say that if someone happens to kill the MP at this point they should be considered a hero? I mean, that is the best deduction we can make of this.
He also unusually brings up the name of the late Tony Edgar, who was a top student in the Kenya national examinations at both KCPE & KCSE levels, and unfortunately lost his life in unknown and unsolved circumstances, and the late Raila Odinga.
This turn of events has left many in disarray as the two seemed to be cool, as that is Hitman's neighbourhood MP. The MP has been subject to a lot online scrutiny with multiple parties coming out online to call him out for being sneaky and devious behind the scenes, and acting innocent on camera.
But this is a very strong and bold remark from the rapper as he is hinting towards the death of the Member of Parliament, leading many to wonder what exactly went wrong. Let us know in the comments what you think about this topic. #kenyanmusic #kenyantiktok🇰🇪 #fyp
Fans online have raised speculation over the sudde Fans online have raised speculation over the sudden end of popular Kenyan TV show, "The Trend" on NTV. Some fans online have taken notice that the show came to a stop without even a grand finale, which is expected as the show was big. The show came to a halt with just a few weeks notice and without official airing of this information, but just social media posts.
At the same time the show ended, rapper and music producer HITMAN KAHT, had released an album teaser for his mixtape 'Nkt' which featured a now viral clip from the show, in which the host 'Amina Abdi' and Harambee Stars captain 'Michael Olunga' were on the show talking about his song 'Olunga' in an underating manner.
Is it by coincidence, that when the rapper aired out this very unprofessional clip of the host understating his achievements goes up, is when the show is suddenly cancelled?
The show host 'Amina Abdi' has recently been spotted in a music video, seemingly trying to make a comeback, and clean up her image as a corporate lady, without formally addressing this matter, leaving fans questioning the circumstances around the end of the show.
Let us know what you think in the comments. Was this a random coincidence or a counter reaction to being called out for unprofessionalism. #fyp #kenyanmusic #kenyantiktok🇰🇪 #rap #kenyanews
Amidst the newly found success of 2019 released hi Amidst the newly found success of 2019 released hit 'Olunga' by HITMAN KAHT ft. 34 GVNG, an old clip of 1/3 of 34 GVNG Vuva insulting HITMAN live on camera, has resurfaced online sparking controversy.
In the clip the artist makes bold and disrespectful utterances against HITMAN KAHT, making claims of label mismanagement.
The video now recently reuploaded, had been removed only last year after 'Olunga' started making airwaves once again.
Bridge Mob, a fanpage closely linked to HITMAN KAHT has posted the clip attaching it to a teaser sound bite from a potential song from his album. In the caption, they claim the artist was always a political pawn being used by the Kenyan music industry, to corrupt the company Bridge Records Entertainment, and to limit HITMAN KAHT. In the teaser HITMAN raps " Vuva finna go down as the biggest sellout "
From the general outlook without being bias, the line has some truth to it. This is because over time the songs they created have become so successful beyond reasonable doubt that, there might have been factors out of control of the label that were impeding the initial success of the music. And by the video dissing HITMAN being pulled down around the same time the success of Olunga is revitalised, clearly raises a lot of speculation on the involvement of Vuva in actions towards dethroning his own Record company.
It is not a good look for the artist who hasn't since even attempted to make an apology. It is very unfortunate that we might never get to see the most culturally impactful rap group in Kenyan history perform the most culturally impactful records in history.
Let us know what you think in the comments about this matter.

Yesterday in the World Cup Round of 16 we saw a du Yesterday in the World Cup Round of 16 we saw a duel between Argentina led by Messi and Egypt led by Salah, end with Argentina coming from 2-0 beating Egypt 3-2, with Argentina's 3 goals coming in the last 15 minutes of the game.
Fans online have began raising speculation of match fixing at the world cup, after noticing similar patterns that led to African teams getting knocked out, like Senegal losing in the same style to England.
While that is a matter that needs plenty investigation to confirm, can we take a moment and analyse the impact of the hydration break at 75 on the mentality of the players?
I mean, it is a new rule, and one can imagine, top experienced players who have had to play full 45 minutes all their career being given short breaks especially in the second half, where the leading team has to keep the momentum going, in order to win the game.
Is it possible that these hydration breaks, are leading to a shift in morale and momentum ? I mean it is the world cup, all these teams are not going to go down easy, and so any advantage they can take they will.
Let us know what you think about this subject in the comments. Match fixing or Tactical Reset and shift in momentum?

It is the financial year round up in Kenya and the It is the financial year round up in Kenya and the royalty earnings for artists and music producers are being distributed.
The same usual KSHS 2000 that music creatives have been complaining about, is the amount that has been issued even to artists with hits being played all over the country. This is surprising, after some government officials came out claiming that MCSK which was also known for this habit had been disbanded. The argument that these CMOs have always put forward is that radio do not submit logs when they play the songs and therefore they are not able to account for the accurate royalties to distribute to the top artists. This argument would be fair in the analogue era of technology, but in these times of Artificial Intelligence, audio fingerprinting technology is not something that a company dedicated to collecting revenue for artists, would claim not to know about. At this point, these companies are just robbing artists in broad daylight, because the current level of technological development in the world and the excuse they are giving is not adding up.
Artists and industry creatives endure a lot in the creation of these projects and it is very unfortunate that companies assigned to protect these artists are not doing their jobs. KAMP, PAVRISK, KECOBO and MCSK should be held accountable by the law at this point. Share your thoughts on what you think about this topic.
